Level 1 Not Enough to Prevent further Contempt of Court

After Minister Dlamini-Zuma was given a lifeline by Davis J in his 19 February 2021 judgement, last week Monday, 22 February 2021, LFN President Reyno De Beer reminded the Minister per letter that if she would not bring the DMA Regulations in line with the Court Order of 2 June 2021 by Monday, 1 March 2021, that LFN would then proceed with its Contempt of Court application against her.

On Sunday, 28 February 2021 President Ramaphosa announced that the country would be jumping to a Level 1, notwithstanding threats of an alleged “Third Wave”.

LFN requested the Minister to bring the DMA Regulations in line with the 2 June 2020 Court Order by announcing that she would drop all six measures excluded from Appeal in that order. It now appears as if she skipped a Level to find a soft spot so that we won’t proceed with the Contempt of Court process against her. Sorry, Minister, that was not enough,” De Beer stated.

Contempt of Court is a crime for which the Minister must be properly punished for, otherwise she will keep on slapping this dead horse as she has been trying to do since June last year.”

LFN will proceed with it’s Contempt of Court process in the High Court as of today, after the Minister failed to have brought the DMA Regulations fully in line with the 2 June 2020 Court Order as she was supposed to do. All references to the affected obsolete measures pertaining to opening of all businesses, any restrictions on funerals, and any criminal prosecution of various transgressions had to have been removed.

LFN will do anything in its power to ensure that this will happen as soon as possible.
