Lockdown Challenge: Case heard, Judgment Expected Monday

The court case lodged by Reyno De Beer and Liberty Fighters Network (LFN) against the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, declaring the National State of Disaster and Lockdown Regulations as unconstitutional and invalid was finally heard by Justice Davis in the High Court Pretoria yesterday, Thursday 28 May 2020.

De Beer opted to argue his own case in person while LFN was represented by its legal representative, Mr. Zehir Omar.

The Court was very respectful towards all parties and made sure that everyone had sufficient time to present their cases.

In the interest of justice, Hola Bon Renaissance Foundation, at the last minute was admitted as an amicus curiae (friend of the court) too. HBR Foundation was assisting the Court through its Chairperson, Mr. Preddy Msieleng on the impact the Lockdown is having on his community in Soweto and otherwise.

Justice Davis made it clear that he does not want to rush in judgment, but realises that the matter is urgent and that it is of national and even international importance.

Judgment was reserved and is expected on Monday 1 June 2020.
