Lockdown Challenge: While we await Judgment, our COVID-19 Cases get more Ridiculous

While almost everyone in South Africa is eagerly awaiting the important judgment in the ‘David and Goliath’ Lockdown High Court challenge of Reyno De Beer and Liberty Fighters network (LFN) against the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, the COVID-19 cases in South Africa get more bizarre.

Yesterday (Monday, 1 June 2020) we received a complaint about an old lady who passed away in the Khayelitsha Hospital in Cape Town where the cause of death was indicated as COVID-19.

The daughter of the deceased, Ms. Nomfuti Mampasa, informed us that her mother had a terrible cough since last year already and had failed to take her chronic high blood pressure medicine and also had Diabetes.

Since the Shutdown started on 18 March 2020, LFN had been querying all over its extensive networks reaching at least 15000 people about COVID-19 cases in South Africa, and until this new strange case reported to us yesterday we found only one other confirmed case before of a Durban based businessman who traveled to Dubai and upon his return started to develop flu-like symptoms which were later diagnosed as COVID-19. This man subsequently recovered fully, but according to a family member three Coronavirus tests turned out to be inconclusive where the patient’s medical practitioner had to make a decision that he could de-isolate himself.

The funeral undertaker in this latest case told LFN that the family was very unhappy about this COVID-19 diagnosis not only because they belief that it was incorrectly diagnosed but also now the family can’t show the necessary respect to their deceased loved one in the way they would have loved under the strict COVID-19 burial measurements.

You may listen to some of the applicable voice notes hereunder and judge for yourself…

This second known case confirms both our standpoints. Firstly, if the deceased had these symptoms long before the first case was even reported in South Africa, the SARS-Cov-2 virus had been around for a very long time and confused with the normal flu. LFN argued in the Court hearing on Thursday, 28 May 2020, that our country is not dealing with a “rate of infection” applicable only to a newly created virus, but dealing with a rate of detection of a newly discovered virus which has been around for a very long time already.

Secondly, the Government is intentionally increasing the COVID-19 cases to justify the Lockdown.

We belief that both these standpoints are correct.

LFN will be challenging this wrong diagnosis and report the medical practitioner to the Health Practitioner’s Council of South Africa (HPCSA), if such need is required.

By the time of publication of this article, we were still awaiting the judgment of Justice Davis. We are not too concerned even though judgment was expected yesterday already, merely confirming that the judge is taking all the time required to make a just and equitable decision under these very difficult circumstances.
